 The MorElectric system began lab tests in 2002, and is currently testing in on-highway truck applications. Commercial production is expected in early 2005. Caterpillar expects the system to be used in a variety of trucks as well as off-highway, marine eversharp and military applications as well. Ort said Caterpillar is looking for partners for market exposure and tile field validation wet saw testing opportunities beginning this september.the development of the system grew, in part, saw out of a dept. of energy (doe) program called "parasitic energy loss reduction and enabling technologies for class 7/8 trucks." this 42 month, $4.4 million research eversharp program started in may 2000 and brought together cat electronics, kenworth truck, engineered machined products, a major tile supplier of water pumps to the heavy-duty wet suit shampoo diesel business, and emerson electric. consequently, saw and eversharp pd pumps have had to be redesigned for improved performance to justify their premium prices. rotor geometry has been significantly improved for gentle handling of viscous materials with delicate tile inclusions, such as baked beans and yogurt with fruit. but the greatest technical wet suits advancement is cip-compatible pd pumps. "that is a big saw leap forward in this industry," jones says. "this is very sophisticated equipment, machined to within thousandths of an inch, and you don''t want to send an army of relatively low-skilled sanitation workers to take apart pd pumps for cleaning and possibly damage them."
